Films: Locusts-The 8th Plague (2005)
Alias: None
Type: Man-Made
Location: Civilized Area
Height/Weight: That of average locusts.
Affiliation: Neutral
Summary: F*CK locusts. These gluttonous insects do nothing but tear down crops that could sustain small towns for a year. With them, it's all take and no give. But hey, it couldn't get any worse...right?
History: Designed to kill crop-eating animals, this newly bred swarm of locusts was made in Idaho to bolster the agricultural economy. The plan worked a bit too well, as the locusts found that while invasive bugs are tasty morsels, humans taste so much better. After a test run goes awry, the locusts are out in the world, descending on anything unlucky enough to be caught in their sights.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After the first swarm is killed with special pesticides, the larger swarms are taken out by being lured via pheromones into a crop dome rigged to explode. It does...though a truck is seen carrying live specimens of the things for unknown purposes...
Powers/Abilities: None.
Weakness: Anything conventional, though they are also hopelessly attracted to pesticides and pheromones.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-It's like having a wall of amateur CGI coming at you! A biting, endless, horrifically-designed swarm, really. A normal locust swarm is bad enough. We didn't need this.
Trivia: -Another film about mutant locusts, simply titled "Locusts", was also released in 2005, but there are so many similarities that we just ignored it.
-The largest locust swarm ever recorded occurred in 1875, when an 198,000 square mile-wide army of locusts, trillions strong, raided the Midwest before just disappearing. Needless to say, it left its mark on the entire economy.
